Black & Gold - Makers of Shit

This story I tell is about the slimiest "short changing" crap that corporate "team sleazes" can ever pull.


OK "real tomato sauce" typically has about 76% tomato in it.

That is what makes it really nice and thick.

This percentage is more or less about the same, right across the board....

A little lower, a little higher - but more or less about the same.

 OK so I am in FoodWorks and I buy what appears to be a bottle of typical tomato sauce.....

And I am looking at this as I am using it.....

And I am thinking, "This is looking pretty fucking watery if you ask me." - and no I am not flushing the bottle with water to add it to soup or something - this is how it actually comes in the bottle.

Now without playing word games between puree and paste, the "real sauce" has about 76% of the tomato content in it, and Black & Gold has ONLY 20% tomato paste in it - thickened with flour and a shit load of food acid to buffer the PH into corrode your teeth and scour grease out of your mouth, from the greasy B&G foods....

How fucking scummy.

 This is bullshit - reducing the tomato content to almost 1/4 of that, of the normal tomato sauce....


Skimping on INGREDIENTS - to the point they are just selling REALLY watered down to 1/4 the tomato content, of their really watery crap tomato soup, thickened with flour, as a tomato sauce, at the tomato sauce price.


It says on the label,

A bit extra on this, on their pissing in the sauce and now the soup, product quality control.

This gets way worse.........

This is the Black & Gold Tomato Soup - the usual dump it in a pot, add one can of water, bring up to the boil, serve etc...

It contains 91% Tomato Puree...... made into soup, or diluted by half again, with a can of water, that means it's 45.5% tomato puree.

Well the Black & Gold Tomato SOUP  (ready to serve) contains twice as much tomato puree (45%)  as the Sauce, which contains 20% tomato puree....

So the tomato soup contains twice as much tomato as the tomato sauce.......

Given that a small amount of flour / starch can really thicken up really fucking watery foods....

This is an interesting test....


The simple gravity / viscosity / opacity - 3 in 1 test......

Left to right:

B&G  91% tomato puree condensed tomato soup.

Same soup diluted 50%. (runs like water)

B&G tomato sauce with 20% tomato puree - which has the least amount of tomato "puree" - and it's thickened with flour (or starch) and interestingly enough, it flows the least......

Real TOMATO SAUCE with about 76% tomato.

Eat shit, cooking the recipies, to give the absolute minimum of ingredients, at the maximum possible mark up....

In my opinion, all these people that are involved in making and marketing this shit, and ought to be dumped on a deserted island, with nothing but a container ship filled with the Black and Good "scum quality" foods with more or less nil nutritional value, and watch them waste away like jews in a concentration camp.



Nutrition? Value for Money? = Fuck off. What bullshit. What a con job.



"Normal" tomato sauce with say 75% tomato costs about $2.50 per 600ml.

"Black & Gold" tomato sauce with 20% tomato "puree" costs about $2.20 per 600ml.

 That is about 187 grams of tomato per dollar, vs. 44 grams of tomato per dollar.

 This is how much of a conjob, this "value for money" is.

This is what a bunch of short changing thieves the management of Black & Gold are.



The people who run Black & Gold foods make shit - and they fucking rip you off big time in the process.


Call the consumer support center on 1300 135 690, and ask to speak to Andrew Reitzer - the CEO.

Tell the guy how pissed off you are about this conjob they are pulling on YOU the consumer.

I suppose their next "value for money" move is to start selling "Tomato Flavoured Sauce" - contains water 95.5%, thickener, 1.2% tomato flavour, red food coloring, flavour enhancer, salt, preservative.

This is about the only way this shit fest of scamming could possibly get any worse.


But it's not the only crap Black and Gold product that gets up my arse.

OK I can cook  - seriously good food..... when I feel like it.

But once in a blue moon I might indulge in a bit of Hex-Enema Cake - not as a part of the idiot jew cult called christianity.

And I once made the mistake of getting some Black and Gold "DARK" Fruit Cake. It is exactly the same as this, only dark brown - literally.

To put it bluntly - it's pure shit.

REAL fruit cake - well my Fruitcake has like 80% fruit in it and you can basically live off it. (Raisin Pie = Hmmm impressive)

The commercial stuff like "Big Sister" has 36% real fruit.

The Black and Gold fruitcake has 18% fruit in it - and the cherries are decidedly fake.

The scumminess of the management of Black and Gold is that REAL fruit cake - with loads of fruit in it, looks DARK BROWN, from (mostly) all the fruit in it along with cinnamon, nutmeg, booze, brown sugar, dark treacle, butter etc....

But do you know what "caramel" food coloring is?

Another name is Parisian Essence.

Or 105c on the packet.

It's sugar that has been cooked past "caramel" as in nougat, or yellow syrup, and it's so badly cooked that it's burned and smells like the shit you would get if you were to squeeze the juices out of cigarette butts.

I think it's one of the most carcinogenic food additives ever created. Don't believe me?  Buy a bottle of Parisian Essence or Caramel food coloring, pour a bit into a saucer and have a BIG SNIFF.....

It smells like satans anus......

Parisian Essence

This is the perfect traditional ingredient to enhance the rich brown colouring of gravies, puddings, cakes and more. Add 1 teaspoon to give your fruit cake a delicious brown colour.

INGREDIENTS

Water, Colour: Caramel III (150c); Salt, Preservative: Sodium Metabisulphite (223).

The short version:

Add sugar to saucepan - cook until it is black and smoking, turn off heat, add in water and stir until liquid. Use exhaust fan - because it smells fucking vile.

It's only redeeming feature is that it's a cheap AND shit way to add a lot of  BROWN colouring to shit food.

The only reason why Coke and Pepsi etc., are BLACK - is because of the "caramel" added to it.

Most of your "factory gravies" are just flour, salt, some flavouring - like vegetable protein etc., and "caramel" to make the white shit gravy into brown shit gravy.

(My old man taught me how to make REAL gravies, from real roast meat residues in the pan.)

Many foods that are lacking in substance and complexity - meaning low cost, shitty and cheap - or just plain lacking in nutrition, use "caramel" or 105c to colour them.


Do you know that the difference is between the Black and Gold (light coloured) "Fruit Cake" and the  Black and Gold Dark Fruit Cake?

Not a fucking thing - except for the nasty black burnt sugar, called Caramel 105c - that has been added to it to only change the colour.

Same Ingredients, same amounts of fruit - a measly 18%.... etc.

That is how cheap shit their fruit cakes are.

It is owned by Australian Asia/Pacific Wholesalers Pty Ltd, which is owned by Metcash Trading Ltd (http://www.metcash.com/ - formerly known as Davids Holdings). Metcash Trading Ltd is owned by Metro Cash and Carry South Africa (http://www.metro.co.za/).

You will notice on the packaging of Black & Gold products that it does not specify the brand is Australian owned. Instead, it displays a logo featuring a kangaroo and the southern cross with the text, "Distributed by an Australian owned company". Without taking much notice of the text, one could make the assumption that the brand itself is Australian owned, but it is only their distributor, FT8 (http://www.ft8.com.au/) that is Australian owned.

It is also worth noting that IGA is owned by Metcash, therefore is not Australian owned either. Each individual supermarket, however, is independently run, but they pay IGA for their services such as use of the IGA name, advertising, etc. Also worth noting is that the IGA brand originated in USA as the Independent Grocers Alliance (hence some royalties must be paid by Metcash for the use of the IGA logo, which is identical in both countries).
